WHO better to see live to get a taste of the authentic bluegrass scene than Peter Rowan and his veteran Bluegrass Band?
The four-man group of traditional folk players are each renowned as esteemed musicians of their genre. Rowan, particularly, has established himself internationally as a bluegrass star ever since his apprenticeship some 45 years ago with the original father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe. His later collaborations with other folk greats, Seatrain and Old and In The Way to name a few, and his phenomenal success as a solo artist have sealed his reputation as a diverse singer-songwriter, performing music that explores the breadth of the bluegrass tradition.
Now Rowan is making a formal tribute to his traditional country roots with the release of his latest record, Legacy, together with Keith Little, Jody Stecher and Paul Knight. Having recorded this debut album in April, the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band performed the full track list at Centre Stage; especially delighting the audience were Jailer Jailer, The Raven and Catfish Blues, each containing elements of pure bluegrass yet also incorporating more original strands of folk. Returning to the stage after a very warm ovation, the band played a Rowan old-time classic, Land of the Navajo as well as Moonlight Midnight. Rowan certainly took his audience on a musical journey down his folk roots throughout the evening and Legacy proved to be the perfect testament to it
